I have never, in all my hospital stays, had a nurse so understanding and compassionate; Donna Lynch took the time to console me and talk to me when I was hurting so badly. Donna was so very busy, working twelve-hour shifts, but she would find the time for me. Even when it wasn't my turn to be seen, Donna would peek into my room as she was passing by and ask if I was doing okay and if I needed anything. I remember what a positive impact she made on me. I also remember the tears would come as we spoke together because I would look deeply into her eyes and would see that she really cared and wanted to make me as comfortable as possible.
Donna's superior clinical skills and proficient physical care allowed me to relax and to start my healing process. She simply answered questions, stayed nearby to make sure I was well. All of these actions are too easily described as "nothing special" and yet they made all of the difference. Donna's excellent communication skills, attention to detail and problem-solving skills are top notch.
She was like a big sister I never had. She's my nurse angel. It's mind blowing that the efforts of one person, one particular person, can truly make a difference in the care of a sick patient. The exceptional care she provides is recognized with this DAISY Award.
