I had an outpatient procedure that was performed at MCR-Surgery South. The nurse who was assigned to me was exceptional in every aspect of her care and I left that day with the desire to recognize her efforts on my behalf and to nominate her as a candidate for the DAISY Award. From the moment Dodie began caring for me that morning, she made me feel so comfortable and completely at ease. I was amazed by her professional expertise and knowledge that was so wonderfully balanced by her delightful, happy, upbeat and downright fun personality and attitude. Dodie was so approachable and easy to talk to as she gathered the necessary information about my medical history, medications, and other pertinent information. She skillfully and capably answered my questions, addressed my concerns, and performed the necessary medical preparations, all the while continuing that friendly, positive, genuinely caring manner. It was evident that Dodie loves people, loves nursing, and sincerely loves making her patients feel comfortable in her care!
I made another observation about Dodie that had to do with her interaction with her co-workers. Both my husband and I noticed that Dodie treated those with whom she worked in the same positive and happy way that she treated us. We couldn't help but notice that her attitude was contagious among her co-workers and that it contributed greatly to the overall climate. It was obvious that Dodie was so well-liked, valued and enjoyed by those who worked alongside her. I was not in the surgery center that day for a complicated and threatening procedure, which makes the attention and care I was given by Dodie even more remarkable. She made me feel that I mattered and that my comfort and needs were important. To me, she embodied the very essence and nature of one who is called nurse. I feel so very lucky (and grateful) that Dodie Deming was my nurse that day. I left smiling and happy and with recognition of how much difference on special person can make!
