I have known Barb through work for several years. Recently I came to the realization on how much of a positive impact Barb has on so many lives. She has been an active member of the Night Council (striving to bring education and opportunities to all night shift staff) for many years, as well as a participant of the staffing pool's Shared Decision Making Team. In her quiet, behind the scenes way, she does amazing little wonderful things to take care of others. The last few years, she has identified staff in our department who have served time in the Military. She collected, organized and delivered "thank you for your service" care packages to them on Veterans Day. She is very active in taking care of our patient families at the Rathbun House. She knows by ensuring care and comfort for families, this will trickle down to ensure the best support possible for patients to regain their health. She has collected and delivered personal care items and food items to their community pantry. Recently she organized the first catered meal ever for the Rathbun House guests. Barbara Thornhill is the perfect example of grace and caring, not just in her bedside duties for the patients in her care, but to fellow staff, patient loved ones and amazingly to people she will likely never meet. She obviously has a strong sense of community and caring that extends well beyond the people whom she comes directly into contact with. Although she may not know it, she quietly and patiently sets a wonderful example of caring for anyone still enough in our crazy busy lives to pay attention.
