As maternity nurses we are privileged to be a part of a life changing experience not just for the patient but for the entire family. We get to experience repeatedly what most folks are blessed to see only a few times in their lifetime. While this experience is fulfilling and rewarding, equally humbling is the tragic loss of a baby. It takes just the right words and a special touch to be able to comfort these parents. Debbie Gibbons has chosen her path in nursing wisely and through her gift of extraordinary compassion and empathy, Debbie works with our parents that are experiencing the unspeakable.
Debbie’s talent and unparallel empathy does not stop with our patients. She works with staff to help us better care for these patients and to help us individually cope with this tragic situation. Debbie’s passion to provide these patients the best care possible and sense of duty to her SJE family doesn’t stop when Debbie goes home. She is always available to answer questions about proper paperwork or best practice for caring for a patient experiencing a loss. Debbie has developed relationships with others in the community and provides our patients guidance to help them make tough decisions at an already difficult time. Debbie has work tirelessly over years to ensure that the babies are treated with respect and compassion deserving of every human being. By working with local funeral homes and agencies she has been able to secure funeral services, burial plots and precious memories for our parents experiencing a loss.
