We are nominating our coworker, Dorothy Remler, for the exemplary care which she provided to a critically ill patient last week. The patient arrived in a hypoxic state with altered mental status and required immediate interventions to improve her oxygenation and stabilize her condition. This is not an unusual type of patient in our department, however, the care provided rose above the norm: Dorothy barely left the patient's bedside for the entire 7 hours of her stay, she placed the needs of her patient above her own and she continually advocated for further interventions when she recognized the need.
She communicated frequently with the physicians, verbalizing her concerns and collaborating with the healthcare team to provide additional resources. She also developed a great rapport with the patient's family- keeping them abreast of the situation and ensuring that they were aware of the critical nature of the patient's condition. Without Dorothy's outstanding clinical skills, advocacy and persistence it is doubtful whether this patient would have survived to be transferred to a critical care unit.
Note: This is Dorothy's 2nd DAISY Award!
