My husband had bariatric surgery. My nerves were getting the best of me as I was trying to determine if he was OK and stable enough for me to leave to go home to our two daughters. Essence was his night nurse and when I asked her about leaving him, this was her response, "I will make sure everything is good with your husband. He is in good hands. I treat my patients as I would my family. I always think that if someone was taking care of my loved ones, I would want it to be quality care." Her response instantly comforted me and my husband. Essence took wonderful care of him that evening and the next morning. She knew I was concerned about leaving him, she wrote down the number I could call to check in on him anytime. I called that evening when I got home before going to bed and also the next morning when I woke up. Each time Essence was fantastic! She gave me updates on how he was doing and was very friendly and caring.
We feel that Essence is an exceptional nurse and should be a model for all nurses. Her empathy and understanding helped to make the stay at ECMC better. We feel blessed that she was the nurse assigned to my husband. The quality of care she gave was exemplary.
