I wasn't sure if I was going to send this but I do want to remain anonymous from the embarassment. Sam took care of my son after he overdosed on heroin. I went to the room and he was wet, cold, and throwing up. Sam brought him a blanket gave him some medication that made him feel better and constantly monitored my son.

He sat down and talked with him about choices and about his family member that has the same problem. My son listened but didn't feel hatred from the nurse. He was kind and he cared for my son. The best treatment from the ER was not related to the medication, monitoring, and blood pressure. The treatment was the communication and caring he received from a stranger that cared. Just for that day I had my son back and hope more days like that will follow.

I have gone to many emergency departments from issues related to my son and most are happy to get him out of the department. I know inside he's a good kid that consistently makes bad choices. I fear that one day I will bury my son from his addiction. I am thankful to meet such a caring nurse in this community that drugs are seen around every corner. I know he cared for my son and for the people in this community I hope more nurses become like Sam.
