As a nurse, I know how important it is to have family support in the hospital. I also know that nurse family members can be helpful or they can make it hard to do your job. Nic has been so awesome about letting me do extra oral care and skin care for Grandpa and letting the family do it after I showed them how. He has been very vigilant about keeping Grandpa dry and clean. He's been very kind. I can tell when he is busy on the floor, but he always made Grandma, mom and my aunt feel like he had plenty of time and was never hurried. Nic has demonstrated that he believes family is part of the care team by asking what he can do, offering to help me when I do things and asking to see the Ted Hose/Bag Trick. I've never had to be a family member before. At first I thought we could transfer Grandpa to the VA (my hospital) since he is a WWII Vet, but I have been so happy with his care and the care of my family. And I am a very picky nurse!
