It still amazes me how much compassion and dedication Shirley shows the veterans on a daily basis. Shirley goes above and beyond to meet the needs of veterans who are in crisis as well as taking care of veterans she has been working with for several years. At least once a week Shirley is working with a veteran in crisis to set up inpatient hospitalization or working with a veteran's family to ensure the veteran gets the mental health treatment they need. She is one of the first to arrive and one of the last to leave but to her "it's just another day". For me, she is a role model and a bar setter to ensuring that the VA continues to provide amazing service to our veterans.
