Elizabeth O'Dwyer cared for a seven-year-old with compartment syndrome who was admitted to the Pediatric ICU post-op for a left lower extremity angiogram and compartment fasciotomy. The patient's post-op care was complicated by septic shock, mental status changes, hemodynamic decompensation resulting in hypotension, tachycardia, respiratory insufficiency, and blood loss requiring emergency intubation, blood transfusions and returning to the OR for below the knee amputation. Because of Elizabeth's keen observations, impeccable assessment skills, her diligence and immediate reporting of findings and changes in the patients condition the patient was able to receive the necessary life saving treatments and therapy.
Elizabeth has demonstrated remarkable skills and knowledge and provided exemplary care for her patients, she is deserving of the DAISY Award.
