I already knew Stefani was a great nurse. She cared for several of my family members and friends on the Cath table and they remember her by name. And too, I know our cardiologists love her. As we bring new MDs thru the Cath Lab for a tour and introductions or as we do PR with local media in the Cath Lab, you can see the respect that Stefani receives from the docs and her team.
But this nomination comes from my heart for another reason; Stefani's passion for educating on heart health. You see, I got to know this side of Stefani first hand as we worked together this past February on Heart Health promotion strategies for the hospital. I know, you are thinking how does "marketing" know about what a nurse does? Isn't nursing about touching patients and saving lives? And I say to you, absolutely yes! And that's what Stefani did all month long this past February; she touched patients, maybe not with direct touch but through all the media and events that she did for us. Time and again, Stefani helped us get the word out in the community about how to have a healthier heart. And I'm convinced she saved lives too! Stefani personally taught "1 Minute CPR" to over 100 preteens, teens and faculty at our school based health centers. And some of those classes were televised, which means the message that "You can save a life" anyone can learn 1 Minute CPR "Learn it for the people you love" reached beyond that class setting. I am absolutely convinced sometime in the future; we'll get to hear about how someone's life was saved by one of those that learned the 1 Minute CPR. I'm humbled at the thought and so proud we extend our mission beyond the walls of the hospital.
Stefani's passion for healthy hearts shows all the time, we just got a minute to really shine a spotlight on it during national Heart Month. Stefani teaches CPR to our own associates but also out in the community.
Our hospital is deeply committed to building awareness for healthy hearts in our community and we worked especially hard this year to really "tell our story" and teach a couple of key heart healthy messages. Stefani's creativity helped us create those moments to tell the story and she did a great job as one of our key spokespersons.
