I miscarried my baby at home. I was able to hold my tiny baby as he slipped away. I went to the hospital, and everyone there showed kindness. There was one nurse, Katie Miller, who took time out to spend with me. She came to the emergency room and explained my options. She brought the baby back to me several times and allowed me to hold him. When I got upset, which was happening often, Katie would sit with me and not discount my feelings at all. I ended up having an operation that night, and was on the maternity floor overnight. I was lucky to again have Katie as my nurse. She spent a great deal of time with me, sitting on my bed and holding my hand after my family had gone home. Many people would have left the room and allowed me to cry by myself, but instead, Katie cried with me. She stayed past her shift that day wrapping up some things, but continued to check on me, and even brought my baby back for a final time. Because of her, my grieving is going better. She gave me permission to grieve and mourn my loss when I was having trouble doing so. She gave me permission to give my baby a proper burial and service to honor his memory, when I thought others may not approve. Katie also made sure to tell everyone to care for my husband, for he had lost a baby too. For that, Katie, We love you, and we hope that you know that you are an EXCELLENT nurse. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity.
