Amanda Corley is a skilled nurse and excels in her field. She was always on top of things. Anytime I overheard anyone ask her if something had been done for me (like ordering an abdominal binder), she'd already taken care of it. She is quietly confident in what she does without being overbearing. I've spent a lot of time at hospitals in the last two months, and Amanda was by far the best nurse I've had.
I never felt like my problems were inconsequential to Amanda. She always listened, immediately answered what she could, and then came back with answers when appropriate. She responded quickly to any beeping, would hang around to make sure everything was okay, and then asked mespecific questions about my needs.
Amanda was the best cheerleader a patient could have. From the beginning, she encouraged me, telling me how well I was doing. She was always showing compassion: suggesting a shower might help me feel more human again when I didn't want to bother, going to bat for me with the doctors, and told me that I could handle going home when I got discouraged just before discharge (and she was right--I have been fine at home).
Whenever Amanda was on duty, the others on her shift perked up too and gave extra effort. Everyonewas sunnier when she was on duty. That may not seem like a big deal, but to a patient who is struggling to return to normal it meant a lot. She made me feel like a person and not just another body to be taken care of. She is a DAISY Nurse.
