Emma is constantly going above and beyond to provide timely intervention, engage with, and know her patients in the time she has with them in the ER. Emma thinks like an emergency nurse and prioritizes lifesaving interventions, escalates regularly to the team to drive care and efficiency in the ER. One of the numerous examples I have about Emma is her engaging with an oncology patient who had an infection and had blood pressures that were deteriorating.
The patient was scared of admission. While Emma was starting a second IV, prepping boluses and pressors, she was getting the patient to laugh and share stories about school and hobbies, she was calm, collected, and taking a ton of stress out of a stressful situation. Even the patient's family was at ease despite heading to the PICU. Her timely and thorough assessment allowed for earlier intervention and in sepsis; that's potentially lifesaving.
Emma could be nominated every shift; she's the first person to ask what she can help with, even if it's helping the techs stock shelves.
She brings an air of energy to whatever zone or role she's in and backs it up with serious clinical skills. Emma is the ultimate team player- just ask anyone in our department.
