According to the fellow nurse, an unstable patient was deteriorating and we were having a hard time stabilizing her blood pressures. The patient was worried about her personal appearance. While Amy knew the patient's clinical priority was IV fluids, she easily recognized that the patient had her own priority. She wanted to put her lipstick on.
Amy assured the patient, "If that is what is important to you, then that is what is important to us". You could see the relief on the patient's face.
The nursing staff continued to work on stabilizing the patient. Amy quietly explained the procedures and that she would make sure her friends and family did not see her until she 'looked better', which included putting on her lipstick.
This story is just one example of the excellent nursing care Amy provides to those entrusted to her.
