Karen Carlson is an exceptional nurse practitioner, a trusted friend, mentor, and care provider.
In 1993, Karen was the first Nurse Practitioner hired to practice in the Women's Health Center, establishing the role of Nurse Practitioner within our organization. In her 26 years, Karen has cared for literally thousands of women across the Puget Sound Region.
Serving as a primary care provider for physicians, nurses, medical center staff, and fellow ARNPs takes a unique set of skills -and Karen has perfected that magnificent skill set. Karen received a countless amount of nominations from providers and staff within our organization who have been grateful recipients of her care, and want to honor her for her care.
The following excerpts are an example of Karen's many accolades from colleagues, patients, staff, and Faculty:
"Karen is smart. Karen is kind. Karen is always ready to listen. From mundane health maintenance conversations to pondering frightening diagnoses, Karen's compassion and expertise are, for me, the definition of therapeutic. She seamlessly balances gravity and seriousness- with inspiration and encouragement."
"For over a decade Karen has been my PCP and ARNP colleague. Karen is easily one of the most thoughtful and caring providers I have ever seen. Her attention to detail is amazing. Her kindness and generosity of time are two of her strongest attributes."
"I have been a patient of Karen's for nearly 15 years. Karen is an extraordinarily gracious health care provider and human being! "
"Honestly, I don't know how she does it! Given the increasing demands of clinical productivity across our organization - somehow, when I am in an exam room with Karen, it is if she has all the time in the world to talk about me and my worries and concerns. Her recommendations are practical and her encouragement sincere."
"When new staff or faculty join our Department and ask for a primary care provider recommendation -Karen is the first name I suggest. I suspect that only Karen knows what percentage of her panel are UW faculty or staff, or friends thereof - but I am pretty sure that it's a high proportion. Karen is discreet, she's kind, smart, and most importantly to me, she is an active and committed listener."
"I have interacted with Karen as both a physician and as a patient and she exemplifies caring and compassion in all aspects of her practice. She follows evidence-based guidelines meticulously but personalizes her recommendations to the patient in front of her. For this reason, she is my "go-to" recommendation for women as a primary care provider."
