No one tells you in nursing school the amount of time you sacrifice in the career of nursing, especially in the field of homecare. Being a PACE RN Case Manager is one of the toughest nursing positions in the field of nursing, and a lot has to do with self-sacrifice and determination, to best care for our participants who live in our community. This describes Jennifer Martel, a nurse who has worked here at the Eddy Senior Care PACE program for over three years, starting her career in the nursing home setting as an LPN and then RN, and then transitioning her career to being a PACE RN Case Manager. Here at Eddy Senior Care, she takes pride in doing the best she can to take care of her participants and going the extra mile, or two. I can think of one participant she has on her case load in particular, who has significant mental health disease and requires a lot of intense case management. Sometimes a nursing visit doesn't always include just medication and disease management, but picking up cat litter that was forgotten at a previous shopping trip, or attending her mental health appointments for care coordination. She takes the time to talk to her participants, and develops a level of trust with her participants that is needed for openness and honesty. Her integrity not only as a nurse, but as a human being are beyond exemplary.
Not only can in comment on the attentiveness of Jen with her participants, but her geniality and spunk makes her an amazing coworker. With the knowledge that Jen was a nursing home LPN and RN, I would ask her questions often about best care practices, and she always took the time to talk to me to assist me with care planning. Not only does her professionalism shine, she also cares for her coworkers. Working as a PACE nurse, it is tough- there is no doubt about it. And not only with that stress, Jen has recent uncontrollable difficulties in her personal life that would break down the average person. I can't express how impressed everyday Jen comes to work and keeps her professional life on the forefront. She treats all of her participants like they are her family and her excellence in clinical care is beyond impressive. I would like to nominate Jennifer Martel, RN Case Manager here at Eddy Senior Care for her compassion, kindness, and intense case management she provides to her participants not only during her working days, but during intense on call hours in the evening and on the weekends. Any senior in our community would be truly blessed to have her as their nurse.
