I would like to thank my nurse and share my story of why this nurse is so special: I was unexpectedly sent to the hospital for extremely high blood pressure after my 40-week appointment at my OBGYN's office. Karla was my nurse when I arrived. From the first moment my husband and I met her, we knew we were in good hands. She was so calming and reassuring and helped put us at ease in a scary situation. When lab results came back and I was diagnosed with preeclampsia. Karla was nothing but supportive and knowledgeable. When I was put on the dreaded magnesium IV, she was at the ready with every trick in the book to make me as comfortable as possible. She anticipated how I might feel, what I might need, and had it ready before I even had to ask. She was like a mind reader! It was evident that her many years of experience had prepared her extremely well to care for patients in the best way possible. I ended up being induced and was lucky enough to have Karla as my nurse the following day when I delivered my daughter. I remember she wrote "have a birthday party", as my goal for the day was to deliver my daughter and thought it was so cute and inspiring. With each and every curve my labor/post-partum process brought, Karla was right on it and at the ready.
Throughout the whole process, Karla was an advocate for me with other providers and always had my best interest at heart. I was so impressed with her patient-first attitude and extreme compassion. My story may seem ordinary as people have babies every day, but to me and my family, it was a big deal and I know the importance of recognizing amazing caregivers. I will be forever grateful that.
