A patient's daughter, "B", lives in California (2,500 miles away). Her parents live at Landmark Commons. Her dad has Alzheimer's and her mom gets "confused" (B's words). Her dad came to the ER and was admitted on the 4th floor. The next morning, Bryce started his shift on the unit.
The weather was terrible that morning and B was trying to tell her mom not to go out in the weather in the event she has an accident however, her mom was pretty adamant about coming. B even said her mom would make up any excuse so she could to come over. B called the hospital and spoke with Bryce on the phone. She was telling him about the circumstances of her parent's health and Bryce was adamant about NOT having her mom drive in, as the weather was very bad and he did not want her to be injured. B communicated that to her mom, and she stayed home. B told her mom that she would call her with any updates.
When she was talking to Bryce, B said not only was he very professional in his communication skills but he took at least 30 minutes on the first phone call and explained very thoroughly what was happening and the treatment of her dad's condition. They spoke two other times that day. In all the communications, B never felt that he was rushing to get her off the phone. He was very clear and professional on her dad's condition. He took the time to explain in detail about the care her father was receiving. Not only was he clear on her dad's condition, but he also went above and beyond and arranged for her dad to get home AND to make his physical therapy appointments with Landmark. B was SO appreciative of his efforts that when she told him Thank You, he said, "This is why I do what I do. I love my job."
Bryce goes above and beyond for his patients!
