There was a patient who was admitted. She was MRCP and very scared. Her mother was allowed to stay overnight to keep her calm. The mother did not leave her daughter's side, day in and day out. Our nurse, Lauren Spence was assigned to this patient. She took extra care of them, knowing how taxing it can be to be at bedside 24/7 with a loved one. I witnessed Lauren taking the time to wash the patient's hair to make her feel more comfortable. Another time, Lauren brought the mother Starbucks because she knew she probably needed a "pick-me-up" after being up most of the night. These examples are just a couple but she went above and beyond to make sure her patient and family were taken care of. I am so glad I have Lauren as a co-worker and friend. To see her do these things without being asked and not expecting anything in return is truly admirable.

We know as a family, that our family member is not the only patient in the unit. You would never know that by the way Lauren cared for our brother. Not only did she provide excellent care to him but to us as well by explaining everything, and a quick prayer for me and my sisters, who are from the east coast, bringing others up to date and sharing comforting personal stories giving us hope. It is evident that she loves what she does. Her help, kindness, and caring are not forced. I pray for her continued success in her profession. My sister and I are nurses but never say it. Our family applauds Loma Linda Hospital especially Lauren.
