Ms. Monroe was witnessed going above and beyond the nursing call of duty for one of her patients. She gave outstanding medical care to a patient with a complicated medical diagnosis and ultimate non-compliance with grace and poise. While caring for this patient of her own, she also maintained a line of communication for this patient's spouse who was on another unit in critical condition. This patient's spouse had coded multiple times and due to other factors was quite debilitated, unable to even answer the telephone per the patient. Ms. Monroe's patient needed assistance in obtaining outpatient prescriptions for an expensive antibiotic and needed certain financial information from her very ill spouse. Due to her own patient's limitations, Ms. Monroe ran a cell phone from floor to floor numerous times, allowing the representative to speak to the patient's spouse to gain consent for records that ultimately affected her own health outcomes since the patient herself could not mobilize well and needed to be in her room for her own medical care. Ms. Monroe's patient voiced concern for her spouse's care due to his ill state and Ms. Monroe managed up her concerns to the appropriate managers and supervisors for her patient, giving her peace of mind. Ms. Monroe went above and beyond in this situation in delivering outstanding care for her patient to meet her overall needs, not stopping at just delivering medical care.
