Katie should be recognized for her resilience and persistence when advocating for a patient in our unit. The patient situation was one that was extremely sensitive. Katie did not delay in escalating when she saw that the patient's civil rights were no longer being honored and knew she had to do intervene in the situation. She appropriately escalated to her leader and was able to clearly present her concern and need for clarification. When the answer she needed was relayed to her, she spoke with the physician and nursing team to make sure that the patient and her rights would not be violated.
This concern and dedication carried on for two days where Katie appropriately escalated and did what was best for our patient. The patient was able to participate in her plan of care without fear of not being heard or respected. Katie, this patient was lucky to have such a strong patient advocate.
