My life was changed the day the Lord decided to take my mother home while here at SRMC. What was a life-changing, devastating experience was made so much better because of this nurse. She is truly a God sent angel. I believed the moment she met my mom she loved her and the feeling was mutual with my mom. My mom had been in and out of the hospital for quite some time so I had experienced a lot of nice nurses, but this particular time was different. Two days after her 82nd birthday, my mom was complaining of pain in the side so we brought her to the ED. They did an x-ray and wanted to do a CT because a spot was seen on her lungs. So they came back and told us that our mother had cancer in her lungs, liver, and bones! Talk about being blown away. She was admitted for observation and sent home the next day. On the following Sunday, my mother called the ambulance herself complaining about chest pain and was admitted again. She is admitted and meets Chelsee. This nurse is one who goes above the call of duty. She represents all that a good nurse should. She has a gentle and kind heart. She is very compassionate and has an excellent bedside manner. I can remember one night, she was a floater and by this time my mom was not doing anything, she had stopped eating, talking and everything. Chelsee came in and she bathed my mom, lotioned her down and combed her hair. That is the type of nurse she is. That meant so much to us. Chelsee was very attentive to my mom and knew exactly what to do and didn't mind doing it. So on the night my mom passed away we had been ringing the bell for some pain medicine, and who walks in, but Chelsee. Right before she came in, my sister and I thought we witnessed my mom taking her last breath so when Chelsee came in we asked could she check her to see, and sure enough she had. She was so sympathetic and caring and before we left for the night, she hugged every one of my siblings. This made the grieving process a whole lot better for us and I want to personally thank her.
