We had a patient who had traveled from out of state to have a procedure done. The patient had been saving up to have this particular procedure done. Unfortunately, the patient was taking a diet pill that he had not informed the staff he was taking. Anesthesia decided it was too risky to perform the procedure on this patient until he had been off the drug for two weeks. The patient was devastated, and had no idea how he would pay for the trip back to Colorado to receive the procedure. Tyler started to make calls immediately. He called the airline asking them to book the patient on the next possible flight out that day in order for the patient to arrive home as soon as possible. He somehow convinced the airline to make the flight change with no additional cost to the patient. He also spent considerable time cancelling hotel reservations and persuaded the hotel to refund the patient all of his money. The patient had paid in full with the agreement that no refund was to be issued in case of cancellation. The patient was practically in tears thanking Tyler for all that he had done. It was apparent that he was extremely disappointed by not receiving the procedure that day, but was feeling very grateful for being cared for nonetheless.
All of these arrangements were not technically part of Tyler's job, but he always feels that taking care of his patients' needs is his job.
