Abbe Monacelli has only been at MMC CCU for about 6 months. As a new member of the CCU team, she has outstanding skills and a compassionate bedside manner. She is dedicated to her job and advocates for her patients and their wishes. One example is when Abbe was taking care of a chronic heart failure patient that had been in the CCU for a little over a month. Considering he is well-known in our unit, the nurses and team members developed a connection with him. This patient was malnourished and could not perform ADLs. He expressed his wish to pass away many times.
When Abbe came in on her morning shift, she was taking care of him. He confided in Abbe and expressed his wishes that he wanted to be made comfortable. Being a strong patient advocate, Abbe jumped into action and made all the appropriate phone calls and respected her patient's wishes.
Soon after, the patient was made comfort care. Abbe stood by his side and valued his requests, and the patient passed away peacefully, with his advocate by his side. Abbe's empathy penetrates well beyond the bedside. Many of the nurses and other team members felt a connection to this patient. Arranging an appointment with CONCERN for the team members who took care of him was of great benefit and helped us to mourn his passing. Abbe is a great asset to the CCU with her compassion towards patients, team-work, and leadership ability. We are proud to work with such an amazing nurse!
