“Amanda started by spending a few more minutes when she came in and introduced herself. She didn’t try to multitask, but rather focused on establishing good rapport with her patient and his family. She asked questions, listened intently and responded to the responses, giving us some ideas about what to expect, and established clear expectations of what Dad needed to do to get better.
“When Dad stopped breathing, she worked rapidly to get him the necessary help and to reassure us that the team would be diligent in their search for the cause. Later she explained in laymen’s terms what the team felt had occurred and made sure our questions were answered. She listened carefully to our concerns, showed compassion and humor when appropriate. She contributed significantly to our father’s recovery and sense of well-being. For all of these things we are grateful. We consider her deserving of this honor!
While we feel that every one provided quality care, we feel that Amanda was exceptional.”
