Our son was air lifted to Memorial from St. Anthony's in Chesterton. Arriving on the Pediatric floor we met Mary Bradley, RN dressed as a bumble bee for Halloween, she said she would be taking care of him.
Our nerves were shot, emotionally drained and at a complete loss for words. Mary became part of our family. She comforted my wife and went above any expectations in the care of our son. She hardly left his side. She kept him comfortable by maintaining his pain levels, and kept us informed of what was going on and what would happen next. She helped with CT scans and MRI's.
While we were on the second floor and in debate of our options, Mary never left her patient's side. She held his hand, spoke gently to him, wiped away his tears and was there to support us as well. There were times that she would cry when he cried. It was so precious watching him reach for her hand and Mary reaching for his in return.
Mary is simply an amazing person. She didn't know us at all but she provided care, compassion, love and respect above and beyond her duties. We are so thankful that we had her to care for our son.
Our son has asked to make a surprise visit back to see Mary and we plan on doing so this week.
We would like to thank her for everything. She's priceless.
We have never seen anyone like this and do know that the world would be a better place with more people like her. You should be so proud to have her as a part of your team.
