Our baby was born at 27 weeks old. She was gestationally the size of a 22-week-old baby. She weighed one pound even at birth and was only 11 inches long. She has had quite a long road in the NICU at Banner Desert. She is doing well though and despite all her challenges we are really blessed that there is not more wrong than there was. She just needed to grow, and she needed love. All of our baby's nurses have been great but once she moved into G Pod, Nurse Deborah really made an impact on us. Our baby has been struggling with her feedings. Nurse Deborah, at the beginning of the process of trying to improve her feedings, stepped in and really looked at what nipples were working for her feeding system. She contacted speech therapy and noted her suggestions to help her gain stamina. Nurse Deborah took the time each day that we called, always around 4 am because we all worked the night shift, and she would explain her findings and suggestions. She was able to explain in a way that we could fully understand the process while feeling like we were included and not talked down to. Nurse Deborah even went out of her way to leave small gifts for our baby around the holidays, which has made our hearts happy. Furthermore, we have three other children at home. My husband and I both work full time, shift work with rotating schedules and I am also a full-time nursing student. We live a minimum of an hour and a half away from the hospital on a good day of traffic. It makes getting to the hospital difficult in the most stressful time of our lives. We feel at ease knowing our baby is in Nurse Deborah's care. She provides such loving care to our baby. It is because of nurses like Deborah, that our baby is thriving, and we couldn't be more grateful.
