Jennifer Guercio RN has served as a role model for compassionate care for over 30 years on a single unit. She is warm, friendly and caring with all those she comes in contact. An excellent example of this is the special bond she has formed with one of our very long-term patients. M was on our unit for an extended time and is anticipating transfer to another organization for surgery that we are unable to perform. M has only a few distant relatives and rarely has visitors. Jennifer has "adopted" her and has been her strong patient advocate for several months. Jennifer makes sure she is assigned her care when on duty and stays over late in the morning (off the clock) to give M her bath and wash her hair. Although I've never seen it, I hear that she sneaks in M "special snacks" as a treat! Jennifer has been known to call M in the evening when she is off to just talk for awhile and wish her a good nights rest. She came into work this evening with a sheet cake and party supplies to wish M good luck with her surgery and to let her know how much she will be missed. These behaviors are not specific to this case as Jennifer has been guilty of going above and beyond the call of duty in any way to make a patients stay more comfortable! Any patient assigned to the care of Jennifer is truly blessed!
