I initially met Andrea while inpatient post my delivery of twins but my biggest impact from this RN was on Sunday. My husband and I were going on 6 days straight of no sleep and 2 days prior we were told by MD that our babies were losing more weight almost 10% and we were devastated. What I've been doing (breastfeeding and supplementing with formula) was too much work, burning too many calories for babies so MD stated to cut out breast time and do pump and formula only for a while.
So of course, we were scared and felt a little hopeless. We did exactly what MD said to do, and then we met with Lactation two days post. What a pleasant and encouraging experience this was. We were emotionally and physically drained trying to keep up with feeding every 2 hours, fearful we weren't again going to get the babies to a healthy weight gain.
Andrea met us and relieved our fears, provided knowledgeable new insight and tips on breastfeeding and feeding with a bottle as a lot of times they were very sleepy. She then gave us the best news, both babies were gaining weight; she cheered us on and spent an over and beyond the amount of time ensuring we were comfortable with the feeding and pumping recommendations. We learned so much and left laughing and hugging.
Andrea has had more of an impact on our lives then she even knows. In a crucial time, she was able to completely change our whole attitude to feeling in control and in charge of taking good care of our babies. I can never say thank you enough. She is an extraordinary nurse who goes beyond her role, creating a safe place to provide much-needed support and encouragement. As new parents to twins, we wanted to praise Andrea for her job well done! Thank you!
