My mother was recently admitted to 3 South. She had some really good nurses who were very attentive to her needs. While still there, my dad was admitted to 3 South also. Fortunately, he got admitted to the same floor as my mom. They had an anniversary coming up soon. Both of them had been talking about it to us and the nurses.
There was a special nurse who took great interest, her name is Jennifer Ridgway. She is one of the most dedicated and compassionate people I have had the privilege to know. Not only is she a great nurse, treating her patients like family, she went above her nursing duties to make our parent's anniversary one that will never be forgotten.
Jennifer called me into the hall and said she would love to do something special for their 63rd anniversary. She had talked to my dad's nurse and had arranged for him to be brought to her room after lunch. In the meantime, she had gone to the gift shop and got a bouquet of roses and lilies and an anniversary card for my dad to take to my mom. She would not let Daddy pay her for anything.
My dad was rolled down to Mom's room with flowers in hand. My mom was thrilled and started crying. Monday was their anniversary, but Jennifer wanted to see how happy it made Mom and Dad, so this was done on Sunday since she would be off work the next day. Mom said it would be an anniversary that she would never forget. Sorry to say it was their last. Our mom passed away later that month. Thanks to Jennifer, they had one great last anniversary. We will forever be grateful to her.
