He delivered intelligent, rational answers to questions, honestly and sincerely, yet I felt his very deep compassion for the patient he serves and their families.
No one ever expects an emergency to happen with a child or a parent that would mean going into intensive care at the hospital, but when it does happen, it can truly be a terrifying and disorienting experience for the family.

Earlier this year, my elderly father fell, transferring himself from the commode back into his wheelchair. He pushed the button for lifeline paramedics to come and restore him to his wheelchair. They drove him to the hospital emergency room, even though the fall did not result in any injuries. He was taken to emergency with an erratic heartbeat, likely brought on by his anxiety about being in hospitals. He was taken to ICU where he spent a relatively quiet and restorative night.

The next day, however, he began to retain CO. My father is an ex-professor and teacher of biochemistry and biology at Texas A&I and at McHi until the mid-80s when he retired. He is totally lucid and extremely intelligent. Moreover, his appearance and his cogency defy his 96 years. My father went from being relatively independent to being totally dependent and disoriented. I was beside myself in worry and great upset.

Then, I met a special nurse, Leandro Resio. Until this point, my confidence was shot. This remarkable nurse not only displayed a very thorough knowledge of the medical actions being taken, he clearly explained what each action was and what choices might be available in the treatment being pursued from my father's pulmonary issues.

Finally, someone recognized my desire to clarify what was going on and more importantly what I as a family member, might be needing to do. He explained about various papers, power of attorney, etc. that should be on file for my father. And what I liked most about Leandro was the fact that he was forthright and honest without being brusque. He delivered intelligent, rational answers to questions, honestly and sincerely, yet I felt his very deep compassion for the patient he serves and their families. He is an amazing nurse about whom I cannot express adequate accolades. You are extremely fortunate to have the skilled, competent member of your ICU nursing staff.
