I received a call from the father of a 5 y/o girl newly diagnosed with DKA. He wanted me to know how much he appreciated the care and compassion his daughter and family had received. His daughter was airlifted to Seattle Children's. This was totally unexpected and neither he nor his wife was prepared. As the flight team arrived they informed the mother that she would not be able to fly over with her daughter unless she had proper shoes to wear. With no time to go home to get them they were devastated. Beth took off her shoes and gave them to the mother so she could accompany her daughter. They were eternally grateful for her compassion and her generosity.

The father wraps this up nicely when he adds in a separate letter:

"I have known many dedicated nurses who daily care for their patient's physical needs. It was such a privilege that night to meet a nurse who also cares for people's hearts."
