... Although fresh out of school, Cherice Wills was chosen to be with my father when he passed away. That evening before, Cherice came on shift with a wonderful sense of calm and cheerful smile, my father seemed to be doing well when I left. She carefully showed me the labs, explained them and told me they would monitor his heart. I felt calm, as did my father that he was in good hands.

During the night my father's heart gave out and we were told he passed peacefully with Cherice by his side. I felt quite guilty at first for having him alone, but there was no indication that my father was dying. The thing that kept me going is that he saw this sweet face as he died; a new friend, the last friend.

When our family arrived she was not around. A more mature nurse said she was "having a hard time". She was so sad. Our family found her, hugged her and we hope that was enough because she had given us so much.
