Rachel Moore is deserving of the DAISY Award because she is an exceptional nurse. She provides patient centered care every time. She is not afraid to ask questions of the providers if she is unsure that the plan is actually in the patient's best interest. Rachel has a particular passion for pediatric patients. She has demonstrated her ability to create a trusting and therapeutic relationship with this vulnerable population quickly, by listening and being present to her patients and their families.

Recently, Rachel cared for a young girl with burns to both of her legs. It was the first day that Rachel cared for her and it was the first day that this patient was scheduled to have her dressings changed without intravenous medication; the mother and child were very anxious about this situation. This event was necessary because the Burn Team needed to assess her burns and determine if she was ready for discharge. Rachel took the time to discuss the situation and express the mother's concerns with the charge nurse, myself as the assistant nurse manager and the attending burn surgeon. Ultimately, it was decided that an anesthesia-assisted procedure was in the best interest of the child and her mother. I firmly believe that had Rachel not taken the time to question the plan after getting a better understanding of the mother's concerns, the patient would have had a very traumatic experience. It is her ability to empathize and understand the fears and concerns of her patients and families that allow her to effectively advocate and provide patient centered care.

This is just one of many examples of Rachel stepping up to provide excellent care to patients with a very challenging situation. We are very fortunate to have Rachel as a part of the 8E team. She is a role model to new and experienced nurses on 8E.

Thank you Rachel.
