Holly is a newer nurse in the ED who exhibits an immense amount of compassion to her patients. The one story that exemplifies this happened when Holly was working on night shift. A young boy was brought to the ED by his parents. The parents explained to Holly that the boy had autism. They also told Holly that he was terrified of hospitals and being stuck by a needle. The family reported that their son could become aggressive when stuck by a needle. Holly comforted the patient by singing with him and holding his hand. She eventually was able to start an IV and draw the necessary blood from the patient. The parents said that he has never let anyone start an IV without a fight. They went on to say that this was the best visit to an ED they had ever had.
