It was a Saturday night, with many sick calls, the ER full of patients, and many more to be seen. Critical beds were in high demand due to so many different codes and very sick patients. For me, as a house supervisor, it will go down in infamy as one of my toughest nights, but with a rainbow during the shift. Ron Nabong was the PFC on DOU with very high acuity on the unit. He also had a full assignment of his own. Ron put patients first every way that night. He attended all the codes he was required to and was able to triage 5 patients out of the unit to accommodate the heavy ICU admission needs. Ron and I spoke frequently through the shift to make the patients movement quick and orderly. Ron had a ready smile, was concerned about helping get patients in the ICU while taking on a very heavy workload of his own. He managed to hold down his full assignment and made it possible for the movement of critical patients from the ER to be placed. This also prevented the ER from closing beds to the public due to the saturation and prevented holding critical patients in the ER. Under Ron's leadership, I feel this particular night went extremely well when it could have been a disaster for the patients. Ron shows compassion and commitment to serve the needs of the patient. Ron is not only a superhero for patient care but an amazing leader every day he is here on the unit.
