Stacy called the team lead and reported that her patient had an order for a CT of the abdomen with contrast. She was not sure the order was for that patient and was waiting to clarify the order with the physician.
The patient was having complications related to his GI system on that day. Radiology was on the way to transport the patient and when they arrived, Stacy informed them to wait and hold the procedure until she clarified the order. Once contacted, the physician did clarify that the order was in error and meant to be for another patient.
The patient could have had further complications if Stacy had not questioned the order and prevented the patient from having the test. Her quick action and patient-centric care protected this patient.
