I am the patient's wife and also an employee of Valley Health at PMH. Holly showed all of Valley Health's values while taking care of my husband.
One year ago, my husband was here for a bowel obstruction and then the bowel burst. He had an ileostomy reversal then a few days later he started vomiting and I brought him back to WMC through the ER. He was admitted and placed on the 4th floor. He had Holly as a nurse and she was very compassionate and caring. She was never in a hurry while taking care of him, and I know she had other patients to take care of. She showed compassion and excellence and she showed integrity and innovation in that she was very knowledgeable in her skills and bedside manner. If she was with another patient and could not assist him right away, Holly collaborated with other staff to meet my husband's needs. Holly made clinical judgments that showed she also had courage. She went over and above taking care of my husband. WMC should be proud to have a nurse that is dedicated to their values and uses them daily.
As I am a nurse, I also realize the importance of caring and showing it in the recovery process of patients. There is a saying, "Patients don't care how much you know until they know how much you care".
When Language of Caring was rolled out for Valley Health I was a spokesperson for that and a trainer. Holly showed excellent language of caring skills at each encounter with my husband. Holly is a true DAISY Nurse.
