I would like to take this opportunity to nominate Mr. Anthony Perry, RN, charge Nurse on Unit 61 WEO. He and his staff typically take the most admissions of any floor, every night. I often love to call back to place patients as he is typically busy nearly every time I call. I can tell by phone conversations that he is an active, "hands on charge nurse as he is either starting an IV, changing a patient, in an isolation room, or otherwise occupied when I need a bed assignment. There are several reasons that 61S sets such a large amount of admission consistently.

One fine example of Anthony's willingness to go "above and beyond" occurred in a recent shift. The ER had ordered a bed for a renal patient and listed unit 52 or 62 as their preference. The patient's diagnoses were "respiratory distress, pneumonia and hemodialysis". The patient arrived to the floor wearing a mask and had a history of PCP, which was not listed on the admission order from the ER. This diagnosis is usually placed in Respiratory Isolation. The floor they requested and that was assigned does not have isolation rooms. I called Anthony and explained the situation (that the ER failed to order an isolation room and that the patient arrived on the floor wearing a mask, with the ER personnel standing with the stretcher). He promptly gave me an isolation bed, and the ER staff then transported the patient to his floor, averting "unloading" the patient into an inappropriate bed. This would have necessitated transport by the nephrology floor staff, which would have virtually left their floor with inadequate help during the transport.

Overall Anthony is exceptional and a loyal employee for 23 years. He has demonstrated extraordinary service and compassion care in this hospital.
