"Hi, my name is Katie, I am your nurse." Thus, I was introduced to a wingless angel.
I am an 82-year-old vet with vision and hearing limitations, who had just gone through lung cancer surgery. Katie was with me for two days. During that time, she had the answers to my questions and provided comfort in a professional manner. She stayed in phone contact with my wife and sons while looking over my meals and medication needs. She also saw to my exercise walks and toileting needs.
The big surprise came when I requested ice cream and low and behold, Katie soon produced it. She is a credit to her profession, the hospital, and the VA. My one regret is that I was sleeping when she went off shift and I didn't get a chance to thank her.
