While assisting Gwen in the care of a very ill non-responsive edematous patient, I once again witnessed the care and compassion that she gives to all patients and family members. Her very compassionate, nurturing nature was demonstrated in how very carefully she positioned the patient’s contracted fingers and hands for comfort. She attends the minutest detail when caring for her patient. As Gwen was positioning the patient, she told her patient (non-responsive) what she was doing and why. Today, I witnessed a former patient (4 years ago) visit Gwen on the unit. They discussed his family, his graduation and job prospects. Gwen even remembered his birth date.
