I have worked with Bethany for many years and she still continues to impress me. She wears the RWJ-BH brand. In a short time, she transitioned from the most competent bedside nurse to the most valuable charge nurse. Although rarely at the bedside, she still genuinely cares, not only for the patient but is empathetic to the needs of their families. Today this was definitely evident. We have an intubated patient who has been holding in the ER for almost 24 hours. It has been decided to make the patient a DNR which has now progressed to a withdrawal of care. While there are currently many patients holding and a very busy day overall, she has taken the time to provide care, updates to the family, and multiple calls advocating for this patient and family. She has found a private room to maintain the integrity of this patient. She has been in touch with physicians and palliative care to provide the needs of this patient. And lastly, continuously updating and being there for the family in this very difficult time for them. As you know, this is very difficult to accomplish on any regular workday but she is still able to make the time.
