For many patients the need to have a chaplain pray with them before going into surgery is very strong … so strong that patients oftentimes become anxious and fearful. That’s where Dolores Deterisi entered the picture late one night in Preop. When the OR nurse came to take the patient into the Operating Room, the family asked for a chaplain. But it was during the four-hour coverage period that chaplains are not on duty. Hearing this, Dolores immediately went to the patient’s bedside and offered to pray with the family and the patient. What a calming effect it had on everyone! Her nominator commended Dolores for her compassion with her patients, taking time to attend to every one of their needs. She is an excellent nurse, and a great team player.
