I recently spent a week on 7 East recovering from Colorectal surgery. The care I received from everyone was excellent; however one nurse so struck me as exceptional, Susan Scampoli.

What first caught my attention was her involvement with the other nurses. When she was busy with me and her pager went off, another nurse quickly popped in and asked if she could help. I later saw Susan helping someone else out. The teamwork was impressive and clearly earned by her prior respectful interactions.

I noticed Susan's deep love of her profession and engagement that ran beyond just a job. She spoke of doing internet research at home on a colon disease issue. Her knowledge of every topic I brought up was most impressive. Questions about electrolytes were answered clearly and in depth. She knew the "why" for everything. Communication was easy and caring.

As a direct result of the above strengths, my patient care was superb. It is very reassuring to know your fate is in the hands of a professional that values personal excellence in both medical topics as well as personal interactions.
