I was hospitalized Wednesday evening after experiencing chest pain and was scheduled to have a stress test done on Thursday morning. This was disappointing to me because my husband and I were planning to leave on vacation Thursday morning to celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary. I had my stress test on Thursday morning. Unfortunately, it was not good. I was told I had to stay another night so I could have a heart catheterization done on Friday, which was our anniversary. I was really upset that I had ruined our anniversary plans and was feeling down. Kara was my nurse on Thursday. I had told her what was happening. She was so kind. She arranged with the cafeteria and had cake brought up to my room. My husband and my three children were there and she made it feel like a party to celebrate our anniversary. She even went out of her way to make sure I had my own special cake, suitable for diabetics.
I would like to nominate her for the DAISY Award because she went above and beyond the call of duty. She was compassionate and sensitive to my feelings. She made a situation that was very depressing to me into something that I can look back at and smile. Your hospital is fortunate to have such a competent and caring nurse.
