Maryann is an exceptional nurse who demonstrates the true definition of a DAISY Nurse. Maryann comes to the unit with a smile every shift. She takes pride in her work and has a visible passion for caring for her patients. She takes the time to really get to know her patients, earns their trust and shows empathy and patience no matter what the situation is.
An example of Maryann's (one of many) love and selfishness with a patient: we have an elderly gentleman who has been with us for some time. He becomes confused and agitated at times and there is a language barrier that occasionally frustrates him. One night he was very agitated. Instead of just trying to medicate him, she sat in his room to chart to keep him company. He was upset about his family, so she gave him a big hug. He cried and said, "you treat me better than my own daughter". She got him pen and paper to write letters to his wife and kids expressing how he felt. He folded the letters and slept all night. She was able to ease his anxiety, release some of his burdens, and help him finally rest.
This is just one example of her kindness. During leader rounds, patients comment on her profound kindness, her responsiveness, and positive attitude.
