Emery Curl cared for my husband, J, right after he had his triple bypass. She answered every one of my questions each time they arose, reassured me he wouldn't break when I wanted to give him a kiss on the forehead, and let me know she would not let anyone back there to "bug" my husband unless they were cleared by me. She worked tirelessly with J once he woke from anesthesia to keep him calm and comfortable.
Emery let us know everything she was doing, whether adding a med, drawing blood, or monitoring the level of help he needed from the vent. It took 4 tries for J to get off the vent, and each time Emery was his biggest cheerleader. She gave him a goal of getting off by the time her shift ended at 11:00 PM and celebrated when he surpassed that goal and got off at 10:20. The whole time Emery was caring for my husband, she was taking out the trash (I lost count how many bags), gauging tube output, and emptying the catheter. I was able to keep a level of calm because Emery showed me she was 100% vested in the care of my husband. She was J's guardian angel on Earth and for that, I will be eternally grateful!
