On the night of February 5th Lorrie went above and beyond to care for the entire family of an infant seen in the emergency room. She worked diligently, trying to find community resources for an infant who had CO exposure. Lorrie had called the Red Cross, but they couldn't do anything unless the home had burned down. She also contacted the Newport News Police Department who advised her to call a church shelter. At this time it was 0100 on February 6th and very cold outside. The care manager on call suggested the best option would be to allow the family to stay in the hospital for tonight. Lorrie called the nursing supervisor to arrange a place to stay in the hospital, and they provided the whole family with food and necessary personal items for the night. Lorrie emailed the ED care manager to follow-up with the family in the morning.
