Sharon Winstead is an outstanding Nurse. She always goes above and beyond her call of duty. For example, there was a Veteran who needed to be transported to the inpatient unit from the ED. Transportation was very busy that night, so Sharon rolled the Veteran to the unit herself. After getting the Veteran to the unit she noticed that the hep-lock was no longer intact. Sharon took the time to initiate another IV and help the Veteran get into bed.

Sharon also finds joy in helping her co-workers. For example there was one time as a new nurse I was overwhelmed with fear in a code situation. She told me to take a deep breath and guided me through the code. After the code she reviewed the code cart with me and the medications. Sharon never made me feel incompetent, instead she helped me conquer my fear. Thanks to Sharon, I am a better nurse!

Sharon is a very hard worker and devoted nurse on a constant basis. If a Veteran does not appear to be seen in a timely manner, Sharon will point out the situation to a provider. She is definitely someone that you would want taking care of your family members.

Sharon Winstead always exemplifies the ICARE principles. Sharon shows respect to the Veterans by explaining procedures and expectations of care even when the ED is busy, she always has the time to smile and speak to the Veterans.
